At King’s Asphalt LLC, we carry a proud tradition that dates back to 1976 when Jack King founded the company. Rex King, sharing the company’s story, recounts, “My father, Jack King, began his career as a farmer, but circumstances led him to sell his farm. He then ventured into land clearing for about two decades. In 1975-76, he befriended a gentleman who had moved away, learned asphalt laying, and returned. This acquaintance wanted to use my dad as a reference due to his stellar reputation in the area. The clients who hired Dad’s new friend also wanted my dad to be on the job, which marked the humble beginnings of our company, starting with just a pickup, wheelbarrow, and a lute. Recognizing the potential for greater earnings in asphalt laying, after two decades of operating dozers, Dad, already skilled at grading, transitioned to asphalt laying. The company’s journey began from these modest beginnings and culminated in the purchase of a new asphalt plant in 1980. I was born in 1978, so my entire life has been intertwined with paving. I accompanied my dad to work even before starting 1st grade, jokingly telling people that I started walking at 9 months, marking the beginning of my career. Every day not spent in school was spent working with my dad, and I’ve been running the company entirely since 2007.

In 1976, my father paved with only the most basic tools and minimal asphalt knowledge, mainly focusing on residential work with occasional commercial projects. Today, we utilize a wider variety of new or like-new equipment that enables us to execute a broader range of work with the highest quality. Initially starting as the most affordable option to secure jobs, we now not only remain competitive but also win most bids based on our quality. Since 2006, we no longer operate our plant, as a major asphalt company installed a new plant in town that same year, simplifying our operations. Presently, the company is managed by my brother, Paul King, my niece, Bethany King, and myself.” Three generations strong, we continue to forge solid relationships throughout Oxford and North Mississippi based on professionalism, expertise, competitive pricing, and quality work.
